Funko popped at the New York Comic Con 2016 and I was on hand to experience it. Prior to the event Funko announced an exclusive list of stocked items from Funko’s most popular lines Pop!, Dorbz, and ReAction! Having a variety of merchandise gave Comic Con merchants a chance to purchase products from popular shows that they love!
Before entering the Funko Booth located at 722 on the Show Floor Level 3, you were greeting by a Giant Pop! of Groot the extraterrestrial, sentient tree-like creature from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Based on a series of graphic stories by Bryan Lee O’Malley, available for sale was Scott Pilgrim with his guitar, dressed in his Astro boy t-shirt and doting ex girlfriend who refers to herself as a “Scottaholic” digital Knives Chau!
From The Walking Dead Shane- Rick’s partner in the sheriff’s department and high school best friend. Never travel down the road or back again without the Golden Girls ReAction figures! There hearts are true, and they are pals and confidants that you can’t be without.
The one and only Funko mascot Freddy Funko by Dorbz made an appearance wearing an I HEART NYCC t-shirt & a golden crown.
Hawkgirl, the first female superhero made her debut appearance at the 2016 NY Comic Con as well as Olivia “Liv” Moore, M.D., the medical resident who died and woke up as a zombie.
An ongoing theme of the Comic Con this year was Batman. To go along with the theme new versions of Batman, Batgirl, and The Joker took the stage. Batman came as White Lantern or Rainbow. Batgirl was in her classic uniform and The Joker was available in his Killing Joke or Suicide Squad attire! Finally, Suicide Squad Harley Quinn- the most popular costume of the NY Comic Con and Deadshot Dorbz also hit the shelves at the Funko booth.
If you watched NBC Saturday morning TV, you will remember these throw back nostalgic Hanna-Barbera classic characters- Melvin Pebbles and Magilla Gorilla, Hair Bear Bunch, Banana Splits, and Yogi Bear. From the 80’s the unforgettable, lovable and yummy smelling Strawberry Shortcake & Huckleberry Pie.
If you are a Star Wars fan, the most popular POP! making its way from a galaxy far far away was Qui Gon Jinn and from the upcoming movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story-Bistan.
All Disney fans including me were excited about the Captain Barbossa with his monkey POP! and Sally (seated) with black cat POP! from my favorite movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Last but not least are the new Pop! rides that were literally driving off the shelves! Funko mascot Freddy is enjoying a joyride in a classic yellow New York taxi while Disney’s Indiana Jones is awaiting adventure in his rugged military jeep based on the Indiana Jones Adventure ride at Disneyland park.
Many of these POPs! made there way into millions of Comic Con enthusiastic fans hands. The limited edition and exclusive notation of these POPs! made them that more desirable! Merchants were willing to pay a lot of money to get their hands on these collectibles!. Thank you Yoko McCain for a great experience and a little bit of history about Freddy Funko 🙂 I look forward to next years NYCC 2017.
